Back in the Saddle

It's been quite a week so far...and it's only Wednesday!

Zack and I got back this weekend from our trip and have settled back into our daily routine. I'm finally sitting down in front of my sewing machine after a week-long break, and that humming is so reassuring to me. It's nice to be back in the saddle again.

I have four or five custom orders I'm working on right now. It's also nice that as I get one of them finished, I find another custom order request, so it's keeping me very busy.

Okay, break time is over. I need to get back behind my little workhorse of a machine. Hi-Yo, Brother! Away!

Yes Sir!

Today, I died and went to fabric Heaven.

Zack and I are visiting my parents in their little country town of Lawrenceburg, TN. When I say a country town, I mean country in the fullest sense of the word...if Walmart doesn't have it, then you aren't going to get it...including your groceries.

Little did I know that the greatest fabric shopping experience of my life is just an hour down the road. My mother and I loaded Zack in the car and headed down to Sir's Fabric in Fayetteville, TN. Looking online, I thought it was going to be a bunch of upholstery and drapery fabrics, but boy, was I wrong. They definitely had a ton of those types of fabrics, but there was also everything else you could ever imagine -- bridal fabrics, suiting fabrics, quilting fabrics, cotton knits, silks, trims, ribbons, buttons -- my heart is racing again just thinking about it all! There were three buildings of table after table of folded fabrics and rack after rack of fantastic bolts.

The prices were simply unbelievable. I bought over 30 yards of fabric (cottons, denims, knits), buttons and ribbons and spent just under $100. My best buy? Four yards of a gorgeous khaki corduroy for 88 cents a yard! Even better, it was exactly what I needed to complete a darling little cowboy themed outfit that I'm designing. I'm sure you'll get to see that one soon on a blog near you. ;)

Knowing what I know now, I will never again dread a trip to this little country town again. The next time my parents want Zack and I to come out for a week's visit, my answer will simply be, "Yes, Sir!"

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's Fancy Pants!

The last remaining hold-out of the Internet revolution finally has a blog. I'll be honest, I've been fighting it all this time. It's way too much work! How will I find the time? What if it causes me to forget about my son and I forget to refill his empty milk cup?

But, you people out there on the other side of my computer tell me that I need a blog; you want to see what I'm working on; you'll die without knowing what's new in the world of the Fancy Pants. Okay, maybe not the last one, but you get the gist. I will try my hardest to keep my blog updated with what's new and fun in my little design world, and you may even get to see some of my favorite indie designers along the way.

You may want to get off your couch, look out the window and up to the sky. It's quite possible that you may see a few little pigs up there.
